Hooga supporting women and new mothers after birth

Postnatal doula care

“How we respond to and sit with new mothers can shape their path in early parenthood and beyond.”

The days immediately following birth are a very special and important part of your journey as a mother. As a postnatal doula, I‘m here to support you with practical needs in your home, as well as help you to focus on your physical and emotional recovery as a new mum.

Navigating your way through maternity services and planning how you are cared for after birth can be daunting, but I'm here to provide evidence based information in the early days after having a baby.

My support will be very individual as I will be on hand for your whole family, and not to do one specific task each time. I can support for a few days or up to a few weeks following the birth of your baby.

 Day-time support may be:

  • Baby care and support while you and your partner rest
  • Supporting you physically after either a natural birth or c-section
  • A safe space to off-load thoughts and feelings, giving you time to reflect and talk about your recent birth experience
  • Support with infant soothing (& reassurance that you're doing great!)
  • Infant feeding advice (breast or bottle, whichever way you choose to feed your baby)
  • Light cleaning and housework duties (tidying, putting on a wash etc)
  • Running errands/shopping/preparing light meals
  • Signposting and accompanying you to support from other professionals, as and when needed - e.g. lactation consultants, postnatal MOTs/women's health checks, pelvic floor assessments

I do not offer ‘set in stone’ packages, as I understand that everyone is different and there are levels of support where we feel comfortable.  I want you to be able to enjoy your new baby, relax and recover positively. This might mean you need support for 1-3 sessions each week, or as much as 5 full days per week.

I offer a free consultation either over the phone or via zoom so you can learn more about how working together will support you. It’s then good for us to meet face-to-face so we can get to know one another.

If you're ready to book in some time with me, the next step is to schedule a postnatal planning session to discuss some of your specific needs and your recovery. This session is charged at £20 per hour and usually takes up to 2 hours. We can then discuss the schedule of hours that will suit you and your family.

Guideline fees (minimum of three hours at any one time, and a minimum 30 hour commitment overall):

Day-time care - guideline £20 per hour (depending on location)

I do not want costs to be prohibitive to getting the right support for you, so I am always open to discuss different options and payment plans.

Night-time or twilight support packages can be very individual but will involve support during later hours of the day and into the night.

For example, you may have a baby who struggles to settle in the evenings, who could cry off and on for many hours as night-time draws in. Or, you may have a partner who works late and another young child who you also care for and needs settling down for bed.

Or, you might be navigating motherhood without a partner, so would value the extra reassurance of someone else in the home during the more isolating times of the night.

Night-time care/twilight support (from 6pm) - £25 per hour (dependent on location)
